2018 has come and gone in the blink of an eye! As we welcome 2019, we take a look at some of the trends we think will be big this year (and how to incorporate them into your bedroom).
As with all trends, they do come and go - but who doesn’t enjoy redecorating every now and then? January is a great time to switch up your style, and create a new look to set the tone for the rest of the year. Get some inspiration for your own space as we jump into the styles we can’t wait to see more of.
All About Colour
While pastel tones have been everywhere in 2018, this year is all about the jewel tones. A popular US paint company has named ‘Night Watch’ as the colour of the year. A deep jade green, it speaks to nature and being grounded as we immerse ourselves in tech.
If you’ve got a mainly neutral palette, try adding a feature wall or introducing your jewel palette through linens, cushions, rugs and accessories. This can create a vibrant and dramatic space without going overboard.
If that seems like a lot, another trend is the ‘90% white, 10% colour’ ratio. This lets your accents pack a punch, and allows you to experiment with texture while keeping a cohesive look that’s not too busy.
Get Homely with Homewares
Telling a personal story with your decor will continue to be a trend in bedrooms, with a ‘more is more’ approach for ornaments and homewares.
Pick up your decor from varying places. They could be inherited pieces from relatives, market finds or a splurge purchase. Style these together to come up with a look that is uniquely and inherently you.
Hygge Here to Stay
A style that has dominated our Instagram feeds through 2018 is the Danish ‘hygge.’ This refers to a cosiness that comes from enjoying life’s simple things, and has proven it has major staying power.
Pronounced something along the lines of ‘hurgha’ (say it fast if you’re unsure!), hygge is all about keeping it simple. Oak or raw wood textures, lots of blankets and scented candles will have you on your way to creating a hygge haven.
Embracing hygge also entails a declutter, so toss anything that doesn’t hold value anymore. Then be ready to welcome in those happy hygge vibes!
